COST Endorsed Candidate

Meghan Robertson

Candidate for Owen Sound City Council

I'm a longtime Owen Sounder, a local business owner and a mother of two. I want to help build a community where people feel welcome, local businesses can thrive and residents can count on practical, responsible leadership.

For more than 20 years, I've owned and operated Meg's Drywall. I also bring over 10 years of volunteer experience on Owen Sound's Heritage, Community Services and Operations committees.

Responsible spending. Strong local businesses. Getting the basics right.
Meghan Robertson, candidate for Owen Sound City Council

My Top Three Priorities

My focus is on affordability, a stronger local economy and the everyday services that make Owen Sound a good place to live.

1

Responsible Spending

I will scrutinize municipal spending, look for savings and advocate for affordable tax increases while protecting essential services. Residents deserve clear explanations of budget decisions and value for every tax dollar.

I will also pursue provincial funding opportunities for projects that benefit Owen Sound.

2

Growing Together

Support local businesses so they can succeed, encourage investment and pursue responsible growth that broadens the City’s tax base and creates opportunities for the community.

3

Getting the Basics Right

Repair roads, maintain parks and keep public spaces clean. Work toward a safer city by improving coordination among social services, local authorities and community partners.

Planning for Infrastructure

My experience on the Operations Committee showed me why long-term planning and regular maintenance matter, particularly for water and wastewater systems. Sound maintenance and capital planning can help reduce surprises and protect essential services, although severe weather and other unexpected costs cannot always be avoided.

Practical, Informed Decisions

Review City Expenses

I support reviewing both capital projects and operating costs to find potential savings without undermining services residents rely on. Construction materials, infrastructure needs and severe weather can affect costs in ways that general inflation figures do not fully capture.

I will use the most current information available, examine the facts and avoid making commitments before understanding the full picture. The goal is to manage costs responsibly while maintaining the City's properties and critical infrastructure.

A Coordinated Approach to Homelessness

Owen Sound serves as a regional hub for social services. I support coordinated action involving Grey County, local law enforcement, mental-health and addiction treatment providers, and community organizations. I will advocate for appropriate funding from the County and provincial government to help meet local needs.

Listening, Communication and Collaboration

As a tradeswoman and business owner, I have learned that resolving disagreements starts with listening carefully to everyone involved. I seek to understand the facts, speak calmly with the people concerned and work toward a practical solution.

I will remain accessible by email and social media. If I know the answer to a resident's question, I will respond promptly. If I need more information, I will say so, do the research and follow up with the best answer I can provide.

I will consider the information available, seek advice from people with relevant experience and expertise, and make informed decisions on behalf of Owen Sound residents.

Building a Stronger Owen Sound—Together

I'm committed to responsible spending, a thriving local economy, reliable infrastructure
and a community where everyone has the opportunity to feel safe and belong.
